Fidel Herrera
Herrera never formally entered the race, despite speculation about his intentions.
Herrera has served as Governor of Veracruz (2004-2010), as well as a four-time congressman anda state senator. He is highly educated (with a Master’s and Doctorate in Law from the University of Veracruz), and regarded as an impressive and persuasive orator. Though his term as governor focused on developing Veracruz’s economy and infrastructure, as well as raising levels of foreign investment, he has been plagued by a scandal, in which he allegedly helped channel federal money to PRI candidates in the state. He does not pull as strongly as the other pre-candidates in opinion polls, but remains an important power broker.
