Manlio Fabio Beltrones
Beltrones dropped out of the race for the PRI nomination on November 21,2011.
A lifelong member of the PRI, Beltrones, 58, is currently President of the Mexican Senate and leader of the majority PRI forces in that chamber. He has been the Governor of his native state of Sonora, and has held numerous state and national party positions. He is currently the President of the Senate, and as such is considered a key powerbroker in the PRI. Many also see him as a member of the PRI’s “Old Guard,” with ties to the party’s past. While a long shot for the PRI nomination, his political skills, leadership positions, and connections to the party suggest it is too early to completely rule him out.
